Monotypes Space/Time
Abstract single drop monotypes. The title of the series derives from my meditation practice which has strongly influenced the simplicity and abstraction of this work. It allows me both the ability to connect deeply with my creative process and also the confidence to express it with simplicity and clarity.
The results capture a spontaneous moment in time, and yet they also express through color the underlying vibrational unity and structure of life. Both space and time are linked together in this expression of pure color. Space-time is now a concept that has been popularized both by science fiction and by Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking. My use of the term is more personal since to me it expresses a moment in time and allows entry into an abstract space. The vertical stripes encourage entry as opposed to horizontal ones that would restrict it.
The simple technique used here where colored inks are applied with soft rubber brayers (rollers) on a Plexiglas plate dictates the simplicity of the outcome. Color and light dominates the work and creates a transcendent, prismatic whole. It is this transcendence which absorbs time and transmutes it as the viewer is pulled into the chromatic vibrating energy of the print.
