Monoprint Series
"As an artist who has spent most of his working life painting representational watercolors, this series of work represents a radical departure from my usual artistic practice.
The luxury of buying a press and having it in my own studio allowed me to start from scratch in creating a visual language. I have always worshipped at the altar of color, as opposed to form, as my main inspiration and I took this as an opportunity to explore pure color.
I created a practice of starting each piece by identifying a color
associated with the emotion I was feeling…without naming it at all. The compositions are determined more by the desire to use a very basic language, and simple tools…in this case, soft rubber rollers.
The title of the series, SpaceTime, derives from my meditation practice, which has strongly influenced the simplicity and abstraction of the work."

About Monoprints
A monoprint is a unique print.
All other types of fine art prints, such as etchings, are printed from a metal plate that has an image engraved on it, and can be inked up many timesand printed in editions of up several hundred.
I create the image on a plate made of Plexiglas. The image is created usingthe finest quality highly light-fast oil-based Charbonnel inks from France. In my SpaceTime series the ink is applied using various width soft rubberbrayers, or rollers.
The plate is then placed on the bed of my press, a sheet of Rives BFK 100% cotton rag paper that has been soaked in water to make it moreabsorbent, is carefully placed on top, and the plate is run through the press under high pressure.
This process removes nearly all the ink from the plate, making a second print impossible. It is possible to add more layers of printing to a single print, called multiple drop prints, but most of my current work is done in a single printing.
Sometimes I will then draw on the print with pastel after it has dried, technically making it a mixed-media piece.
Each print is signed, titled and dated in pencil on the back of the print as well as being signed on the front.
